07. Freeing system resources
we recommend freeing up the maximum amount of resources
(gaining free memory). To
do this, close all unneeded programs in the taskbar (Messenger,
Emule etc.) but right-clicking on them and choosing Quit or Close:
Example of a cluttered taskbar:
You can also check the amount of free memory you
have in the task manager (Windows XP and 2K). To get to the
task manager, right-click in the empty space on the taskbar and
select Task manager from the menu (or you can hold down CTRL
and ALT and press Delete ONCE):

Go to the Performance section and look at the
Physical memory (K) table. Here you can see the amount of
free memory in kilobytes. If you have 512 Mb of RAM installed
on your machine we recommend launching a game with roughly
300 Mb of free memory (300 000 Kb), if you have only 256 Mb
of Ram we suggest you launch a game after freeing roughly 150
Mb (150 000 Kb)of memory:

We have prepared a few scripts that let you free up
your memory in a click before playing. Download one of the scripts
below, (by clicking on it) which one depends on the amount of RAM
installed on your machine. Put it on the desktop and double-click
on it to free you memory (nothing will appear on the screen but the
mouse will freeze for a few seconds, this is perfectly normal):
